ARAUCANA

KID FRIENDLY, DOCILE, CALM, QUIET, SKITTISH

LIVESTOCK CONSERVANCY STATUS: STUDY

The true original blue egg laying ancestor that all Ameraucanas & Easter Eggers can trace their origins back to this native “Mapuche” fowl discovered in Chile, South America and named after the local indigenous tribe "Araucana".  new arriving Spaniards feared them because they never seen chickens that had ear tufts, (lobster style) rump tails, and laid blue eggs. It is very extreme hard to find the original true Mapachue in the USA and will usually be a north American version which may not have both the tufts and rump tail at same time, but should have them.  They are extremely broody, great moms, but they have a low hatch turn out rate.  Very cuddling, can sometimes be skittish, but that does not mean they are not very kid friendly.
